Morehead City, N.C. – Sunshine and temperatures in the low to mid-80s will make for a comfortable Tuesday across eastern North Carolina, but residents should prepare for wetter weather starting Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, today’s highs will range from 76°F in Rodanthe to 85°F in Kenansville and Kinston. Mostly sunny skies and dry air will continue into Wednesday, with highs holding steady between 80°F and 85°F.
By Thursday, a weak low-pressure system is expected to move into the region, bringing a 50% chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening. Locally heavy rain may lead to ponding on roads in low-lying areas.
Cities including Greenville, New Bern, and Jacksonville should prepare for possible lightning and gusty winds Thursday through Friday. Beachgoers and boaters are advised to monitor conditions closely as weather deteriorates late week.
Temperatures will remain seasonably warm through the end of the workweek. While no widespread flooding is currently expected, residents are urged to stay weather-aware and check for updated advisories as the system develops.
⚠️ Additional rain and thunderstorm chances persist through Friday night.
