RALEIGH, NC – A light snow event could bring up to half an inch of accumulation to central North Carolina Tuesday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that frigid temperatures and snow will make travel conditions potentially slick across the region, especially on untreated roads.

According to the NWS, snow is expected late Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning, primarily along and south of I-40 and I-85. Areas like Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, and Greensboro may see light snow accumulation of less than half an inch. Combined with temperatures near 19°F overnight, icy patches are likely to form, especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas.

Tuesday’s daytime high will only reach 32°F before dropping sharply by nightfall. Light north winds will make it feel even colder, with wind chills in the teens. The cold snap is expected to persist through midweek, with daytime highs near freezing and nighttime lows in the teens.

Residents are encouraged to use caution when driving and monitor local updates for changing road conditions. Ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and avoid unnecessary travel during the snowfall.

By Friday, the weather will begin to moderate, with highs reaching the mid-40s. Stay informed by visiting the National Weather Service website or tuning into local alerts.
