North Carolina’s Cape Fear region is starting the day under clear skies and a sharp winter chill. Temperatures sit at 34 degrees in Wilmington late this morning, after falling to around 30 before sunrise. Northwest winds are gusting up to 26 mph, pushing wind chills into the mid-20s.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, sunshine dominates today with a high near 47 degrees. Winds remain breezy through early afternoon before easing toward sunset. The dry air and clear sky will allow temperatures to dip back to around 27 tonight.

Drivers along U.S. 17, U.S. 74 and College Road should stay alert early for isolated slick spots on bridges. While no snow or ice is falling, late February often brings patchy refreeze where moisture lingers before dawn.

Tuesday stays sunny with a high near 49. By Wednesday, clouds increase and temperatures jump to around 61 degrees. That marks the start of a noticeable warming trend. Thursday turns even milder, reaching near 69 degrees with a 30 percent chance of rain during the day and a higher chance of showers Thursday night.

Showers linger into Friday, mainly before early afternoon, with highs in the upper 60s. The 6- to 10-day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across coastal North Carolina. Highs may hold in the upper 60s to near 70 into next weekend, offering a strong hint of early spring warmth.
