Charlotte, North Carolina – Severe weather could hit Charlotte by Friday afternoon, with damaging wind gusts and hail topping the list of threats.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop after 5 p.m. Friday, driven by an approaching cold front. The primary threat window is late Friday into early evening, with storms possibly intensifying over Mecklenburg and surrounding counties, especially near I-85 and I-77.

Saturday holds another chance for thunderstorms, with the atmosphere remaining unstable throughout the afternoon. While coverage may be more isolated, any storm could still bring strong winds. Rain chances drop slightly Sunday, but afternoon storms can’t be ruled out.

The severe threat decreases by Monday, but scattered showers linger into early next week. Conditions may improve slightly Tuesday, with more sun and lower rain chances.

Warnings may be issued as storm timing becomes clearer — stay updated through official channels.
