Raleigh, NC – Severe weather is expected to impact central North Carolina on Wednesday, March 5, with damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and heavy rain posing significant threats. The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed much of the region under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) for severe storms.

According to the NWS Raleigh office, storms will begin early Wednesday morning and continue through the afternoon, with the highest threat window between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Damaging winds reaching up to 74 mph, hail, and a 2-9% chance of tornadoes within 25 miles are forecasted.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with non-thunderstorm gusts up to 45 mph expected. Officials warn that these winds could cause power outages and downed tree limbs.

Residents should stay weather-aware, secure outdoor objects, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. The NWS advises monitoring updates closely as conditions may change.
