Newport, NC – Residents in eastern North Carolina should prepare for a midweek shift in the weather as rain arrives Wednesday evening and persists through Friday. Stronger wind gusts and cooler temperatures will accompany the showers, making for damp and breezy conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, rain chances increase late Wednesday, with the heaviest showers likely overnight into early Thursday. Winds will pick up, with gusts reaching 22 mph at times. Highs on Wednesday will climb to the mid-50s before dropping to the upper 40s overnight.
Thursday will bring scattered showers throughout the day, with a 40% chance of rain. Breezy conditions will persist, and temperatures will remain mild, reaching a high of 65 degrees. Roads could become slick, especially during heavier rainfall periods, so drivers should allow extra time for morning and evening commutes.
By Friday, the rain will become more scattered, with a 30% chance of showers in the afternoon. Temperatures will stay warm, reaching around 70 degrees before cooling off overnight. Winds will start to ease, bringing calmer conditions heading into the weekend.
Saturday will remain mostly cloudy with highs near 62, but rain chances decrease significantly. Sunday is shaping up to be the best day for outdoor plans, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures around 70 degrees.
Residents should secure outdoor items ahead of Wednesday night’s gusty winds and have umbrellas ready for a damp end to the workweek. Those traveling on highways or bridges should remain cautious, as wet roads and reduced visibility may create hazardous driving conditions.
