Raleigh, N.C. – Scattered thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds may roll into North Carolina’s western Piedmont by late Friday afternoon, bringing a marginal risk for severe weather through the early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Level 1 Marginal Risk has been issued for areas west of Raleigh, including Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Wadesboro. Storm activity is expected to increase between 4 and 8 p.m., with damaging winds being the main concern. Morning clouds will give way to sunshine before storm development ramps up.

Cities including Durham, Chapel Hill, and Asheboro should stay weather-aware, especially during the evening commute. While not all areas will see storms, any isolated severe cells could bring gusts strong enough to down trees or cause localized power outages. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and secure outdoor items ahead of time.

Temperatures will soar into the upper 80s to near 90°F before storms develop, adding extra instability to the atmosphere. Friday’s storm setup resembles similar early-June events in the region that have led to sporadic damage.

Storm chances taper by late evening, but updates from the National Weather Service will continue as conditions evolve.
