Asheville, N.C. – Isolated thunderstorms could pop up across the North Carolina mountains this afternoon as temperatures climb into the low 80s, bringing a summerlike feel to the final days of April.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, cloud cover will thin through the morning, leading to mostly sunny skies by midday. Scattered storms may develop after 2 p.m., especially along the Blue Ridge, with brief downpours and gusty winds possible through early evening.

Cities like Boone, Burnsville, and Asheville are likely to stay dry most of the day but should be prepared for fast-moving showers, especially in higher elevations. While no severe weather is expected, lightning and brief heavy rain could impact hikers and travelers on the Blue Ridge Parkway or U.S. 19 and U.S. 23 corridors.

Temperatures are running well above normal for late April, with Asheville expected to hit 81°F and nearby towns like Marion, Lenoir, and Franklin reaching similar highs. Residents should stay weather-aware and keep devices charged in case of brief power disruptions.

Storm chances fade after sunset, with dry and mild weather expected to return overnight. Another round of mountain storms is possible midweek as warm conditions continue.
