Newport, NC – Rain is set to drench eastern North Carolina today, with peak precipitation expected between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers along US 70 should anticipate slick roads and reduced visibility throughout the day. The National Weather Service warns of widespread rainfall totaling 0.25 to 0.5 inches.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin this morning and intensify in the afternoon. Gusty southwest winds up to 36 mph may make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Coastal areas, including New Bern and Jacksonville, are under an 80-90% chance of rain. Commuters and travelers are advised to slow down and leave extra time for travel.

Tonight, rain will taper off by 7 p.m., leaving mostly cloudy skies and a low of 29°F. By Tuesday, the region will dry out with sunny skies and a high near 42°F, but colder weather will settle in by midweek. Wednesday’s high will reach only 42°F, and lows will drop into the 20s at night.

Looking ahead, Thursday will remain sunny but cold, with highs near 37°F. By Friday, a mix of rain and snow showers could arrive in the overnight hours, followed by partly sunny skies on Saturday.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and plan accordingly for today’s rain and this week’s chill. Prepare for colder mornings and bundle up for the clear but brisk weather ahead.
