North Carolina Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Strong Storms Expected Sunday Night into Monday

Newport, NC – North Carolina residents can expect an active weather pattern through Monday, bringing strong thunderstorms, heavy rain, and dangerous surf conditions along the coast. A High Surf Advisory is in effect for Bogue Banks beaches from Sunday at 2 p.m. until Monday at 2 a.m., with waves reaching up to 8 feet and an increased risk of coastal erosion.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will move through the region Sunday, triggering scattered thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to marginally severe by the evening. Heavy rainfall and flooding are possible in low-lying areas, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph along the coast.

By Monday morning, rain and thunderstorms will continue, with an 80% chance of precipitation. The system will gradually clear out by Monday night, giving way to sunny skies on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures climbing back to the upper 60s to low 70s.
