Raleigh, N.C. – Rain and an early spring chill will drench central North Carolina Tuesday, with temperatures stuck in the 50s and steady rainfall expected across the region through early Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, rainfall will overspread the area from west to east this morning and persist into the overnight hours. Daytime highs will struggle to reach 60 degrees in most cities—typical for early March, not late May.
Cities including Durham, Greensboro, and Roxboro are expected to stay in the mid- to upper 50s, while Raleigh and Fayetteville may briefly touch the low 60s. Rainfall totals are expected to reach 1 to 1.5 inches in most areas, including Winston-Salem, Sanford, and Goldsboro.
Drivers should expect reduced visibility and ponding on roads, particularly during the afternoon and evening commute. With cool temperatures, layered clothing and rain gear are recommended. Those using space heaters or alternate heat sources should follow safety guidelines to avoid fire risk.
Conditions are expected to slowly improve Wednesday, though more showers may follow later in the week. A reminder: this system is not expected to bring severe storms, but more advisories could be issued if rainfall rates increase.
