Raleigh, NC – An Arctic cold front is sweeping through North Carolina today, bringing late-day showers and a sharp temperature drop tonight. Residents should brace for lows dipping into the low 30s by early Saturday morning, with a weekend forecast that remains chilly but sunny.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), rain chances will peak between late afternoon and mid-evening today, with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Overnight, as the Arctic air settles in, temperatures will plunge, and wind chills could make it feel even colder. Those traveling along I-40 or I-440 during the evening commute should watch for wet roadways and reduced visibility during rain showers.

Saturday will see clear skies but brisk conditions, with highs reaching only the mid-40s. Gusty winds of up to 22 mph will make outdoor activities feel colder. Saturday night, temperatures are expected to fall into the low 20s, potentially creating hazardous conditions for unprotected pipes and pets left outdoors.

Looking ahead, Sunday will bring similar conditions, with highs near 40 degrees and sunny skies. The region will see a gradual warming trend next week, with highs in the low 50s by Christmas Day. However, clear nights will keep lows near freezing through early next week.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and ensure pets are sheltered during overnight freezes. Travelers should plan ahead and dress for freezing temperatures during morning activities.
