Raleigh, NC – A wave of afternoon storms could drench southern North Carolina today, with Fayetteville and Raleigh facing a 50% chance of rain by 5 p.m. Wednesday as a weak cold front slides south across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, isolated rain this morning will become more widespread by mid-afternoon, especially from Goldsboro to Rockingham. While severe weather is not expected, a few thunderstorms may develop with brief downpours and gusty winds.

Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, and Raleigh all show elevated precipitation odds starting around 2 p.m., peaking through 7 p.m. before tapering off late evening. Commuters should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility during rush hour. Temperatures will range from the low 70s in the north to near 80°F in southern counties, with overnight lows falling into the 50s and low 60s.

Drivers are urged to slow down during heavy showers and avoid flooded roadways. Those in mobile homes or outdoor areas should monitor conditions and seek shelter if thunder is heard.

Showers are expected to end late tonight, but the NWS advises residents to stay updated as more weather systems could follow later this week.
