Wilmington, North Carolina – Coastal flooding could soak roads near the Cape Fear River through Friday, as daily thunderstorms target the Wilmington region into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until midnight tonight, with minor flooding possible again Thursday and Friday evenings during high tide. Areas along River Road (NC-133) and near Battleship Park could see water encroach on lanes during evening commutes. Spotter activation is not expected, but drivers should avoid flooded roads and check for closures near the waterfront.

Rain chances rise again Thursday morning with scattered thunderstorms possible after 8 a.m. in Belville, Leland, and central New Hanover County. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, brief downpours may cause localized flooding. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid-80s, adding muggy summer heat to the mix.

Showers and thunderstorm chances continue each day through Monday, with peak rain potential Friday and Friday night (70% chance). Sunshine is expected to return by Sunday, but until then, daily disruptions may impact outdoor plans, commutes, and riverfront businesses.

  • Friday: Thunderstorms likely, high 84°F
  • Saturday: Spotty showers early, high 82°F
