Raleigh, North Carolina – Showers and thunderstorms could drench Raleigh and much of Wake County by early Wednesday afternoon, raising concerns for drivers and anyone with outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service, a series of thunderstorms will develop after 1 p.m. Wednesday, with rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch—higher if thunderstorms become severe. Winds are expected from the east at 5 to 7 mph, and the chance of precipitation is 40%. Showers are likely to continue into Wednesday night, keeping roads slick and reducing visibility across Raleigh, Cary, and Garner.

Residents are urged to slow down during heavy downpours and check for flash flooding on low-lying roadways, especially near Crabtree Creek and Capital Boulevard. The risk of additional thunderstorms and scattered showers remains through Thursday, with another 50% chance of precipitation, possibly impacting local schools and commutes.

By Friday, a few showers and thunderstorms could linger, but drier, sunnier weather is expected by Saturday. Prepare by keeping phones charged, staying weather-aware, and postponing outdoor activities as needed.

More advisories could follow as the system evolves—keep updated through the end of the week.
