Raleigh, NC – Travelers heading out for Thanksgiving may face wet conditions late tonight and throughout Thursday, potentially impacting roadways like I-40. Rain is expected to begin overnight and linger into Thanksgiving afternoon, making for hazardous driving conditions during peak holiday travel times.

According to the National Weather Service, the rain will likely start after midnight, with heavier showers arriving Thursday morning. The heaviest precipitation is forecast between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., with a high near 68 degrees. Winds could gust up to 28 mph, adding to travel challenges. Motorists are advised to reduce speed, maintain safe distances, and allow extra time for trips.

By Thursday evening, rain chances drop significantly, with skies clearing overnight into Friday. Cooler conditions will follow, with Friday’s high near 54 and a low of 29 Friday night. Saturday remains sunny but cold, with temperatures reaching only 46 degrees.

For Thanksgiving travelers using local highways, including I-40 and I-440, early morning departures or post-rain afternoon trips are recommended to avoid the worst conditions. Those staying in Raleigh should prepare for wet outdoor plans and keep an umbrella handy.

Looking ahead, the weekend will feature dry but colder weather. Saturday night’s low could dip to 28 degrees, with Sunday’s high only reaching 48. Conditions improve into next week, with sunshine and highs returning to the 50s by Monday.
