Raleigh, N.C. – Scorching heat and strong afternoon storms could hit the Raleigh area Monday, bringing the threat of power outages and hazardous travel.
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are likely to develop after 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, with damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph possible in Wake, Johnston, and Cumberland counties. Highs will climb to 91°F, with heat indices in the upper 90s. A chance of storms continues through the evening, tapering off before midnight.
Drivers should avoid I-40 between 3 and 8 p.m. if storms intensify. The National Weather Service warns scattered strong storms could damage trees and power lines. Residents are urged to charge devices, secure loose items outdoors, and prepare for sudden power loss.
By Tuesday, June 10, the pattern continues with more storms possible after 2 p.m. and highs near 86°F. Rain chances climb again Tuesday night, especially before 8 p.m., with cooler air moving in midweek.
