Charlotte, North Carolina – Storms could disrupt Sunday plans across the Charlotte area as showers and thunderstorms are expected to move in before 2 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances increase dramatically Sunday afternoon, with storms likely before 2 and after 4 p.m. Gusty winds and isolated lightning may accompany heavier cells. Motorists on I-77 and I-85 should anticipate slower travel and be prepared for reduced visibility and slick road conditions.

Rain is likely to persist through Sunday night, with storms continuing into the early hours of Monday. Temperatures will top out around 87°F Sunday before dropping to the low 70s overnight. While Monday begins mostly sunny, more scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to return after 2 p.m., keeping roads damp and delaying outdoor activity once again.

By Tuesday, temperatures soar to 96°F under mostly sunny skies before another round of afternoon storms hits. The heat index may climb above 100°F, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents should stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

Looking ahead, storm chances remain high through Friday, with a 50% chance of rain Wednesday and increasing to 60% by Thursday. Highs stay in the mid-90s throughout the week, reinforcing the summer pattern of hot afternoons and pop-up storms.
