Charlotte, North Carolina – A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday across the Charlotte metro, but a dry, sunny weekend is just hours away.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and isolated storms will persist through Friday afternoon and early evening with gusts up to 28 mph and brief downpours possible. Residents are urged to avoid travel during peak storm hours, especially along I-77 and I-85, where slick roads and reduced visibility are expected during the evening commute.

By Saturday, skies clear and a more typical early summer pattern sets in. Charlotte will see highs near 80°F with sunshine dominating the weekend. Saturday night will be calm and seasonable, with temperatures in the upper 50s.

Sunday, June 1 marks the start of a warm, dry stretch. A slight chance of showers lingers Sunday morning, but most of the day will stay clear, with highs in the low 80s. Monday through Wednesday brings climbing temps — 82°F Monday, 87°F Tuesday, and near 90°F by Wednesday — under mostly sunny skies.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires may return by midweek, limiting air quality during calm mornings. Those with respiratory conditions should monitor AQI reports closely.

Expect more heat as the week progresses, hinting at a stronger summer surge. Stay hydrated and limit outdoor work during peak heat.

Weather alerts may be updated through Friday night. Check NWS Charlotte for real-time warnings.
