Wilmington, NC – A stormy Sunday is in store for southeast North Carolina, with the potential for thunderstorms and damaging wind gusts. Residents in Wilmington and surrounding areas should prepare for unsettled weather, which could impact outdoor plans and travel.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will bring increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. Winds will pick up from the south at 16 to 23 mph, with gusts reaching 38 mph. Some storms could produce heavy rain, leading to localized flooding.

Sunday night will remain stormy, with a 90% chance of precipitation and possible severe weather. Rainfall amounts between one and two inches are expected, with higher totals possible in thunderstorms. Travelers on major roadways like US-17 and I-40 should exercise caution as wet conditions and strong winds could create hazardous driving conditions.

The extended forecast shows a return to drier and milder weather by Tuesday, with sunny skies and a high of 67°F. By midweek, temperatures will climb into the low 70s, with mostly clear conditions.

Residents should stay weather-aware, secure outdoor items ahead of the winds, and monitor updates for possible severe weather alerts on Sunday.
