According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a line of thunderstorms could develop between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. across Wake, Durham, and Johnston counties. Winds may reach 30 mph, and although severe weather is not anticipated, brief downpours and lightning could affect late-night drivers on I-40 and I-540. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and avoid travel during the heaviest rain.
Sunshine returns Thursday, kicking off May with warm, dry conditions and highs in the upper 80s. However, that break will be short-lived. Another round of storms is possible Friday afternoon into Friday night, with a 40% chance of rain by evening. Weekend plans may need adjusting, as Saturday currently brings a 60% chance of showers and more spring thunderstorms, especially after 2 p.m.
