Wilmington, North Carolina – Storms will move into southeastern North Carolina Tuesday night, with thunder, showers, and wind gusts up to 16 mph threatening evening travel and power service across Wilmington and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop after 2 p.m. Tuesday, becoming more widespread through Tuesday night. The highest chance for heavy rainfall and lightning occurs between late Tuesday and Wednesday night, with precipitation chances peaking at 50%. Rainfall amounts could exceed a quarter inch, especially during storms.

Local highways like NC-421 and NC-17 could see hazardous driving conditions during peak evening hours. Residents should avoid non-essential travel and charge electronic devices in case of brief outages. Winds may gust up to 16 mph Tuesday, further increasing risks along open roads and bridges.

By Wednesday, thunderstorms could continue through the evening, tapering to scattered showers by early Thursday. While flooding risks remain low, brief downpours and pooling on roadways are possible. Daytime highs will hover in the low 80s with humid spring air in place.
