Raleigh, North Carolina – A soggy stretch of spring weather begins Tuesday for much of central North Carolina, with thunderstorms and soaking rain possible through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a chance of showers and isolated storms begins late Tuesday morning, increasing to 60% by Tuesday night. Areas along I-40, including Raleigh, Cary, and Garner, may see periods of heavy rain and thunder by evening. New rainfall could exceed a quarter inch, especially where storms track repeatedly.

Wednesday continues the unsettled trend with a 50% chance of afternoon thunderstorms and a high near 80°F. Commuters should plan for delays on I-40 and I-440 due to slick roads and reduced visibility.

By Thursday, thunderstorm chances remain at 40%, tapering slightly by nightfall. Temperatures will hover near 78°F, and the muggy air will linger. NWS says localized downpours may occur again before conditions begin to dry out by the weekend.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, check gutters, and avoid driving through flooded areas. While this system won’t bring severe weather for now, the repeated rounds of storms could lead to ponding on roads and poor travel conditions during peak hours.
