Morehead City, NC – Spring weather in eastern North Carolina is shaping up to be a mix of moderate rip current risks, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall in the coming days. Starting Sunday, the region will experience scattered showers and storms, with the risk of severe weather increasing by Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, a moderate rip current risk is in effect through Saturday evening for areas south of Cape Hatteras, including Morehead City. Residents and visitors should be cautious along the coast, as conditions can change rapidly. If planning to go to the beach, be sure to stay informed of the latest weather updates.

Looking ahead, a slow-moving cold front is expected to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms to the area on Monday. The combination of ample moisture and the front’s slow pace could lead to heavy rainfall, potentially causing localized flooding. Weather authorities have urged residents to prepare for possible disruptions to travel and outdoor activities, as showers will continue through much of the week.

The five-day forecast includes:

  • Sunday: Partly cloudy with a high of 78°F and a low of 65°F. Expect a slight chance of thunderstorms.
  • Monday: Showers and storms likely, with high temperatures near 78°F and lows around 48°F.
  • Tuesday: A chance of showers in the morning, then mostly sunny by afternoon with highs near 63°F.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, with highs near 71°F.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70°F.

Residents are advised to stay up-to-date on weather conditions, especially when heading outdoors, and to be prepared for changing conditions, especially along the coast.
