North Carolina – Dry air is already gripping Charlotte this morning, and the setup favors rapid fire spread as winds increase through the afternoon. Leaves and grass feel crisp, and even a small spark could spread quickly.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, humidity levels are dropping near 29% with north winds around 12 mph and gusts reaching 20 mph. That combination significantly raises the risk of outdoor fires across the Charlotte metro and surrounding counties.

Across Charlotte, Concord, and Gastonia, conditions stay dry through the day with sunshine gradually increasing. Roads remain clear along I-77, I-85, and Independence Boulevard, but the bigger concern is fire ignition. Avoid outdoor burning and use caution with grills or equipment that could spark.

Through the afternoon, winds stay steady while humidity remains low. This creates peak fire danger conditions, especially in open fields and wooded areas. Secure loose debris and avoid activities that generate heat or flames.

Midweek brings a noticeable warmup. Highs climb into the mid-60s Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. By Thursday, temperatures surge to near 78°F with full sunshine, followed by even warmer air Friday with highs reaching the mid-80s.

A slight shift arrives late Friday with a 40% chance of showers. While not widespread, brief rain could help reduce fire concerns heading into the weekend.

For now, dry and breezy conditions dominate. Stay alert and avoid open flames today. Are you noticing how dry it feels outside?

Five Day Outlook for Charlotte, NC:
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high near 66°F
Thursday: Sunny, high near 78°F
Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 86°F, chance of showers late
Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 59°F
Sunday: Sunny, high near 63°F
