Raleigh, N.C. – Isolated strong storms could bring damaging winds and hail to parts of North Carolina Tuesday afternoon, with the greatest risk centered on the Triangle region through 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Level 1 “Marginal Risk” has been issued for central North Carolina, including Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, and Fayetteville. The main threats are gusty winds and small hail, though the risk of tornadoes remains low. The greatest storm activity is expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Localized power outages, brief travel delays, and minor property damage are possible, especially in areas with weakened trees or unsecured outdoor items. Residents along I-40 and I-85 corridors should monitor conditions closely and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Storms may develop quickly and bring intense, short-lived impacts.

This is the first severe weather risk of the week, following a quiet start to spring across much of the state. Residents are urged to secure loose items, stay weather-aware, and have a way to receive alerts.

Storms are expected to taper off overnight, but the National Weather Service says additional advisories may be issued if conditions intensify.
