Raleigh, NC – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for central North Carolina from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday due to dangerous fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service in Raleigh warns that gusty winds, low humidity, and dry fuels could lead to rapid wildfire spread.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will shift from west-southwest to west-northwest at speeds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph. Relative humidity levels will drop as low as 15 to 20 percent, and temperatures will rise into the upper 60s to upper 70s.

The affected area includes Person, Granville, Vance, Warren, Halifax, Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Franklin, Nash, Edgecombe, Davidson, Randolph, Chatham, Wake, Johnston, Wilson, Stanly, Montgomery, Moore, Lee, Harnett, Wayne, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, Cumberland, and Sampson counties.

The National Weather Service strongly advises against outdoor burning, as any fire that starts could spread rapidly under these conditions. Residents are urged to take precautions, including securing outdoor objects that could be blown by strong winds and avoiding activities that may create sparks or flames.

A Red Flag Warning is issued when critical fire weather conditions are expected, posing an increased wildfire risk. Residents should remain vigilant and follow local fire safety regulations throughout the day.
