Newport, NC – Coastal North Carolina is starting the week with mild weather, but a shift is expected by New Year’s Eve. Residents should prepare for possible showers Tuesday afternoon as a cold front moves into the region.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday will bring highs near 65 with mostly sunny skies, providing a calm start to the week. Winds will remain light at 5 to 7 mph, making outdoor activities pleasant. By Tuesday, temperatures will climb to 70 degrees before rain chances increase after 1 p.m. Gusty winds up to 20 mph are possible, and showers may disrupt New Year’s Eve plans for some.

After the rain, a cooling trend will bring significantly colder nights. Temperatures will drop to a low of 46 degrees Tuesday night, with highs on New Year’s Day only reaching 57. Clear skies will dominate, but gusts up to 23 mph will add a chill to the air.

By midweek, expect nighttime lows to plummet further, with Wednesday night dipping to 33 degrees. Thursday and Friday will see highs of 51 and 54 degrees, respectively, under sunny skies, but lows will remain near freezing.

Residents should prepare for colder evenings and monitor forecasts if planning outdoor New Year’s celebrations. Drivers are advised to exercise caution during potential rain Tuesday and remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions.
