Wilmington, NC – A cold weather advisory remains in effect until Friday morning for southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. Temperatures are expected to drop as low as 19°F overnight, with wind chills plunging to 11°F.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory impacts areas including Wilmington, Leland, and Myrtle Grove. Residents should prepare for the frigid conditions, as wind chills could lead to frostbite or hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Officials urge the public to dress warmly, wear gloves and hats, and limit outdoor exposure during early morning hours.
Friday will bring slightly warmer conditions with a high near 42°F under partly sunny skies. Friday night, however, temperatures will dip to 19°F under mostly clear skies. As the weekend approaches, Saturday promises sunny weather with highs near 43°F and calm winds. Saturday night will remain chilly, with temperatures bottoming out at 23°F.
Looking ahead, Sunday offers a brief reprieve with highs reaching 49°F and mostly sunny skies. By Monday, a chance of rain showers returns, with temperatures peaking at 50°F during the day. Overnight lows will remain cold, ranging from 31°F on Sunday night to 36°F by Monday night.
Drivers should exercise caution on bridges and overpasses, which may become slick overnight. Additionally, residents should take steps to protect vulnerable individuals, pets, and outdoor plants from freezing conditions.
