Ocracoke, NC – A High Wind Warning remains in place for Ocracoke and Hatteras Islands through 4 p.m. today, as strong winds threaten widespread power outages and hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, north winds between 30 and 40 mph with gusts reaching up to 60 mph are expected in the area, including the communities of Frisco, Avon, and Rodanthe. The conditions are likely to cause downed trees and power lines, with travel becoming particularly difficult for high-profile vehicles.

Residents are advised to remain in the lower levels of their homes, avoid windows, and take precautions against falling debris. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution if travel is necessary.
