Greenville, NC – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Greene, Lenoir, Martin, and Pitt counties through 10 a.m. Saturday. Freezing rain has created hazardous conditions across eastern North Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), additional ice accumulation of up to one-tenth of an inch is possible. Temperatures have dropped below freezing, causing slick roads and icy bridges. Residents are urged to drive cautiously and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

Areas including Greenville, Kinston, and Snow Hill are experiencing the worst conditions. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are especially dangerous, with ice forming overnight. Officials warn pedestrians to take extra care on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, as icy surfaces increase the risk of falls.

Elsewhere in the region, a winter weather advisory has been extended for parts of eastern North Carolina until 7 a.m. This advisory includes cities such as New Bern, Jacksonville, and Kill Devil Hills. Mixed precipitation has led to snow and sleet accumulations up to half an inch in some areas, adding to the icy conditions.

The NWS urges residents to monitor local updates and check road conditions by dialing 511. Officials also advise preparing for potential power outages as ice builds on power lines. With conditions expected to improve by midday, travel disruptions may persist into the morning hours.

Motorists and residents should exercise caution until temperatures rise and road crews complete clearing efforts.
