Surf City, NC – Travelers along North Carolina’s coastline should prepare for challenging conditions as dense fog and high winds create hazards through Friday. The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory until 7 a.m. Wednesday and a small craft advisory starting early Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, visibility will drop below a quarter mile along coastal waters from Ocracoke Inlet to Surf City until mid-morning Wednesday. Low visibility could make navigation difficult for mariners and motorists in the area. Beginning early Thursday, winds are expected to reach 25 knots with gusts up to 35 knots, alongside seas building to 7 feet.

Thanksgiving Day will bring strong west winds that could impact bridges, high-profile vehicles, and small watercraft. Coastal residents should secure outdoor items to avoid wind-related damage. Inland areas can expect calmer but cool weather, with highs in the upper 50s and clear skies.

The weekend forecast shows calmer conditions returning Friday evening, though temperatures will remain brisk. Boaters should remain cautious as rough seas may persist in some areas.

Officials urge mariners to postpone travel if possible and recommend using radar and compass navigation in dense fog. Travelers along Highway 17 and local bridges should allow extra time and exercise caution.
