Wilmington, NC – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect starting tonight at 9 p.m., bringing snow, icy conditions, and dangerous wind chills to Southeast North Carolina. The National Weather Service forecasts snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches across the region, with some isolated areas seeing higher totals.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will move in this evening, with snowfall expected between 6 p.m. and midnight. Residents should prepare for slippery road conditions tonight and through Wednesday morning. Wind chills are projected to drop near 10 degrees, making travel hazardous and increasing the risk of hypothermia.

The Cold Weather Advisory currently in effect will continue until 10 a.m. Tuesday, and another advisory may be issued overnight as temperatures plummet. For those planning to travel, major routes like I-40 and US-17 could see icy patches and reduced visibility.

Looking ahead, freezing rain remains a slight possibility on Thursday, further complicating road conditions. Wednesday is expected to be partly sunny with highs near 34°F, offering a brief respite before temperatures dip again Thursday night. By Friday, clear skies and highs near 43°F will bring relief to the region.

Residents are urged to monitor updates at weather.gov and take precautions, including wearing layers, keeping emergency supplies in vehicles, and avoiding non-essential travel during the storm.

Stay tuned for updated forecasts and ensure your household is prepared for the cold and wintry conditions.
