Raleigh, NC – North Carolina residents should prepare for a chilly weekend as temperatures drop well below seasonal averages. Highs across the I-40 corridor are expected to range from the mid-40s to low 50s, with nighttime lows plunging into the 20s.

According to the National Weather Service, the cold front sweeping through the region will bring clear skies but frigid temperatures. Friday’s high of 54 degrees will give way to a low of 27 degrees overnight. Saturday will feel even colder, with a daytime high of just 47 degrees and a brisk northwest wind lowering temperatures further.

Drivers along I-40 and surrounding roadways should be mindful of frosty conditions during early morning and late evening commutes, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Residents are urged to protect outdoor plants, insulate exposed pipes, and ensure pets are brought indoors as freezing temperatures persist through Monday night.

The extended forecast offers little reprieve, with Sunday seeing highs in the low 50s and a low of 28 degrees overnight. Monday and Tuesday remain sunny but cold, with daytime highs in the low-to-mid 40s and lows hovering near freezing.

As clear skies dominate the weekend forecast, those planning outdoor activities should dress in layers to stay warm. The National Weather Service advises using caution during prolonged exposure to cold temperatures, as frostbite and hypothermia risks increase in below-freezing conditions.
