Roanoke, Va. – Scattered severe storms are expected to sweep across southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina this evening, bringing the potential for large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes through 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, thunderstorms will move west to east between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., impacting cities like Roanoke, Martinsville, and Mount Airy. Localized flash flooding is also possible in areas that experience repeated rounds of heavy rain.

Communities along the I-81 corridor and U.S. Route 58 should prepare for dangerous travel conditions, sudden wind gusts, and the possibility of downed trees or power lines. Residents are urged to charge devices, secure outdoor items, and remain indoors during warnings. If flooding occurs, avoid driving through high water.

While storms are expected to taper off late tonight as the cold front exits the region, additional watches or warnings may be issued if new storm cells form. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for real-time updates.
