North Carolina and South Carolina Weather: Spring 2025 Was Among Warmest on Record with Temps Up to 3° Above Normal

Wilmington, NC – Parts of the Carolinas just wrapped up one of their hottest springs on record, with average temperatures from March through May soaring nearly 3 degrees above normal.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the spring of 2025 was the fourth warmest on record in the city since 1875. Wilmington saw an average temperature of 66.0°F—2.6° above normal—with highs reaching 76.2° and lows averaging nearly 56°. The last freeze occurred early, on March 4.

Florence, SC, had its third warmest spring since 1948, logging an average temperature of 67.2°, up 2.9° from normal. North Myrtle Beach tied that third-place record with temps averaging 65.3°. Both cities saw their last freeze on March 7.

Rainfall totals varied, with Wilmington receiving 10.22″ (1.36″ below normal), while Florence saw a surplus of 11.35″, over an inch above average. Lumberton, NC, ended up with its ninth warmest spring on record since 1903.

Residents should prepare for continued above-average heat into summer. The National Weather Service advises staying hydrated, checking on vulnerable neighbors, and conserving energy during peak afternoon hours.
