Huntsville, Alabama – Dangerous heat will grip northern Alabama and southern Tennessee starting this weekend, with high temperatures and heat indices soaring into triple digits through at least Tuesday. Meanwhile, strong to severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon could bring gusty winds, lightning, and localized flooding across the Tennessee Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, heat indices will climb as high as 105°F beginning Saturday, with daily highs in the low to mid-90s. The first heat wave of summer 2025 is expected to peak Monday and Tuesday, with heat indices reaching 101–102°F. Before the heat sets in, a line of storms may sweep southeastward through early Thursday evening, bringing gusts up to 50 mph and brief heavy rain.

Cities like Decatur, Florence, and Scottsboro should brace for heat-related illnesses and storm-related power outages. Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, use air conditioning, and stay hydrated. Shifting outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours can help reduce risk. If you hear thunder, move indoors immediately.

The heat wave is expected to persist into midweek. Stay weather-aware for additional advisories as more alerts could be issued if the high temperatures intensify.
