Rensselaer, NY – A mix of snow, ice, and freezing rain will create hazardous conditions across Rensselaer County as New York kicks off the first full week of February.

Snow begins late Sunday, with accumulations reaching up to three inches before transitioning to freezing rain early Monday. Roads, including US-4 and Route 9, may become slick, especially during the Monday morning commute. According to the National Weather Service, untreated surfaces could see ice buildup, making travel dangerous. Drivers should allow extra time and exercise caution.

Tuesday offers a brief break with partly sunny skies and a high near 37°F, but another storm system arrives Wednesday. A wintry mix of snow and freezing rain is likely through Thursday, with ice accumulation up to a half-inch in some areas. Wind gusts up to 26 mph could lead to power outages, especially where ice coats power lines.

By Friday, conditions improve with highs reaching the mid-30s under partly sunny skies. However, lingering ice may still cause travel issues. Residents should stay alert for weather updates and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
