New York, NY – A bitter cold front will grip New York City tonight and Tuesday, bringing wind chills as low as zero degrees. Residents are advised to bundle up and limit outdoor exposure during peak overnight cold hours.
According to the National Weather Service, increasing clouds Monday night will lead to lows around 13°F, but gusty winds will drop wind chill values to near zero. Tuesday’s high will only reach 21°F, with wind chills hovering between zero and 5°F throughout the morning. Winds from the west at 8–9 mph will amplify the cold.
Conditions will improve slightly by Wednesday, with sunny skies and a high of 21°F. However, nighttime temperatures will dip to 16°F, keeping the area in a prolonged freeze. Relief is expected later in the week as highs climb to 28°F Thursday and 32°F Friday.
Drivers on major roadways, including I-95 and the FDR Drive, should prepare for icy patches due to lingering low temperatures. Pedestrians should watch for slippery sidewalks, especially in shaded areas.
To stay warm, dress in layers, wear insulated gloves and hats, and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold. Consider checking on elderly neighbors and pets to ensure their safety during the freeze.
Looking ahead, temperatures will trend upward this weekend, with highs nearing 39°F by Sunday, offering a break from the cold.
