Albany, NY – Snow showers are expected to sweep through the Capital Region Sunday night, possibly creating slick roadways into Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will remain cold this weekend, with highs near 31 on Saturday and 33 on Sunday. Snow showers are likely to begin after 1 a.m. Sunday night, with less than half an inch of accumulation expected. The light snow could transition into rain by Monday morning as temperatures warm, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions on major roadways, including I-87 and Route 20.

Drivers should exercise caution during Monday’s commute, especially as the forecast predicts a 60% chance of mixed precipitation. Road crews are expected to monitor conditions and treat surfaces as needed, but wet and icy patches may persist.

The week ahead will bring a mix of winter weather. Monday’s highs will reach near 38, with a 90% chance of showers overnight. By Tuesday, rain is expected to continue, with highs climbing to 52 before turning colder again Tuesday night. Looking further ahead, Wednesday will be mostly cloudy and mild, with a high near 44, but more rain and snow are likely late Wednesday night into Thursday.

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for Sunday night’s snow and monitor conditions throughout the week. Clear sidewalks and salt driveways to avoid ice buildup during the freeze-thaw cycle.
