Albany, NY – A late-season snow event is bringing hazardous travel conditions to parts of northern New York, with up to 6 inches of snow expected in higher elevations of the western Adirondacks.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday for northern Herkimer County. The heaviest snowfall is forecast north of Route 28 near Old Forge, where upslope snow showers could produce 2 to 6 inches of accumulation. Lighter totals of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the southern Green Mountains.

Gusty west to northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph may accompany the snowfall, causing blowing and drifting snow with reduced visibility. The combination of fresh snow and strong winds may create slick roads, especially on secondary and untreated surfaces.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution when traveling overnight into Thursday morning, particularly in higher elevation areas. Snow-covered roads and limited visibility could lead to hazardous driving conditions.

This weather system is unusual for mid-April but not unprecedented. Residents are advised to stay updated through local advisories and be prepared for temporary delays in travel or school operations in affected regions.
