Albany, NY – A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday for eastern New York, including Albany, Troy, and Rensselaer counties. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected, making for hazardous travel conditions overnight into the Thursday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service, total snow accumulations could reach up to two inches, with ice buildup up to one-tenth of an inch. Winds will increase, with gusts reaching 21 mph, adding to the risk of slippery roads. Motorists should exercise caution, particularly on I-87 and I-90, where icy patches may form.
Thursday morning will see a mix of rain and snow before precipitation transitions to all rain by the afternoon. High temperatures will reach the low 40s, helping to melt some of the ice buildup. However, refreezing may occur overnight as temperatures drop again into the 20s.
Looking ahead, another storm system could bring more snow by Saturday night, potentially impacting Valentine’s weekend plans. Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and plan accordingly for changing conditions.
