Albany, NY – Travelers in New York are urged to prepare for hazardous conditions as a winter storm targets the region, bringing heavy snow starting late Wednesday night and lasting through Thanksgiving.
According to the National Weather Service, areas along and near I-88, including Otsego, Delaware, and Schoharie counties, could see snow accumulations of up to seven inches. The heaviest snowfall is expected in higher elevations, with valleys receiving a mix of rain and snow.
The storm is forecasted to make roads, bridges, and overpasses slick and hazardous. Those traveling for Thanksgiving are advised to delay non-essential trips or take extra precautions, including equipping vehicles with winter tires and carrying emergency supplies.
Temperatures will hover near freezing throughout Thursday, limiting significant snow accumulation in lower areas. However, higher elevations may experience prolonged snowfall and visibility issues. Winds gusting up to 20 mph could create additional travel hazards.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast indicates a gradual improvement in conditions by Friday, with light snow tapering off. Clear skies and chilly temperatures are expected for the weekend.
