Rensselaer, NY – A significant winter storm is set to impact eastern New York this weekend, bringing snow, sleet, and strong winds that could create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to begin Saturday afternoon, accumulating between 1 and 3 inches. By Saturday night, the storm will intensify with a mix of snow and sleet, producing an additional 1 to 3 inches. Winds will increase, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph, potentially causing blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Sunday will bring a wintry mix, including freezing rain in the morning before transitioning back to snow. Travel could be difficult, particularly on Interstate 88 and Interstate 87. Officials urge drivers to use caution and allow extra time for their commutes.

Following the storm, a cold front will move in early next week, with temperatures dropping into the single digits at night. Wind chills may fall below zero, increasing the risk of frostbite for those outside for extended periods.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts, prepare for slippery roads, and stay indoors if conditions worsen.
