Buffalo, NY – A powerful lake-effect snowstorm is set to bring heavy accumulations and dangerous conditions to Buffalo starting Thursday evening. Snowfall could reach 18 to 24 inches in the most impacted areas by Friday morning, creating hazardous travel along I-90 and surrounding roadways.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, the heaviest snow bands will affect regions southeast of Lake Erie tonight, with conditions worsening Friday morning. Winds gusting up to 35 mph will contribute to blowing snow and reduced visibility, posing a significant risk for drivers. Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel and prepare for potential delays.

Friday will see continued snow showers throughout the day, especially in Oswego and Lewis counties, with totals nearing two feet in some areas. Temperatures will drop to a high of 31°F, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Saturday offers some relief, with lighter snowfall and highs near 25°F, but bitterly cold winds persist.

Looking ahead to Sunday, conditions will remain cloudy with scattered snow showers, but no significant accumulation is expected.

Officials urge Buffalo residents to monitor local updates and ensure emergency kits are stocked. Travelers on I-90 should allow extra time and check for closures before heading out.

Stay tuned for further updates as conditions evolve.
