New York, NY – Residents across New York are advised to brace for strong winds today as gusts may reach up to 50 mph. A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service is in effect until 10 p.m., covering New York City, Long Island, and surrounding areas. These hazardous conditions could impact travel and outdoor safety throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service, northwest winds will range from 20 to 30 mph with gusts peaking at 50 mph. Residents should secure loose outdoor items, as unsecured objects may be blown away or damaged. Driving may be challenging, particularly for high-profile vehicles, and falling tree limbs could lead to isolated power outages.
The winds will ease slightly overnight, with gusts dropping to 38 mph and temperatures falling to a low of 28 degrees. Friday will bring calmer conditions with a high near 37 and northwest winds tapering to 15 mph. However, snow chances increase this weekend, with a 50% likelihood of snow late Friday night and a 40% chance Saturday morning.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain in the mid-to-upper 30s through the weekend, with mostly sunny skies returning Sunday. Residents are urged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service for changing conditions and prepare for potential power outages by charging devices and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak wind periods.
