Buffalo, NY – Snowfall and icy conditions are set to return to western and north-central New York, creating hazardous travel through Saturday. Snow showers Thursday will taper off by midnight, but another round of lake-effect snow is expected Friday, followed by rain and snow Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will climb into the mid-30s Friday before sharply dropping into the teens Saturday night. Winds up to 20 mph could create areas of blowing snow, particularly along I-90 and other major roadways, making travel difficult. Residents should drive with caution and allow extra time for commutes.
Friday’s forecast includes slight snow showers and mostly cloudy skies, with daytime highs around 35°F. On Saturday, rain will likely transition to snow, and freezing conditions could create slick surfaces. Overnight lows Saturday will plummet to single digits, with wind chills making it feel even colder.
The cold snap will persist Sunday into Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with daytime highs struggling to reach the low 20s. There’s a 40% chance of snow showers both days, and sub-zero wind chills could pose a risk for those outdoors.
Residents are advised to stock up on supplies, ensure proper heating, and dress warmly if heading outside. Check for updates on school or work closures as the winter weather intensifies.
