Binghamton, NY – A weak weather system is bringing light snow across the Binghamton area this weekend, with colder air arriving Sunday evening. Residents should prepare for slippery conditions as snow showers persist into Monday morning, impacting local roadways, including I-81 and Route 17.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow will taper off by Saturday evening, but additional lake-effect snow is likely overnight into early Sunday. Accumulations will be minimal, generally less than two inches, but cold northwest winds will enhance the potential for slick travel. Temperatures will remain in the low 20s overnight Saturday before reaching a high of 33 degrees Sunday.

Monday brings a mix of partly sunny skies and below-freezing temperatures, with highs around 35 degrees. However, a clipper system Monday night could bring more widespread snowfall across Binghamton, followed by an additional wave of lake-effect snow Tuesday into Wednesday.

Travelers should remain cautious as roads may freeze overnight, particularly near bridges and overpasses. Drivers are encouraged to monitor weather updates and plan extra travel time. Those commuting Monday morning should prepare for potential delays due to icy road conditions.

Looking ahead, Binghamton’s extended forecast suggests mostly cloudy skies and daytime highs in the low to mid-30s through midweek. Nighttime lows will hover in the teens, making frost and ice likely each morning. Snow showers could return Tuesday night, further affecting travel.

Residents are urged to stay informed and review winter preparedness plans, including ensuring vehicles are equipped with snow brushes, shovels, and emergency kits.
