Buffalo, New York – Thunderstorms may roll into the Buffalo area by mid-afternoon Thursday, threatening commuters and outdoor events across Erie County.

According to the National Weather Service, Buffalo will see a partly sunny start Thursday, with highs near 73°F and storms developing after 2 p.m. Winds will shift east around 7 mph. There is a 30% chance of storms in the city, with localized downpours possible along I-90 and Route 33, especially near the afternoon rush hour.

While rainfall amounts will likely stay below a tenth of an inch, NWS warns that isolated heavier cells could spark temporary flooding or brief lightning hazards. Drivers are urged to slow down on wet pavement and keep headlights on if visibility drops. No severe weather is expected, but conditions may change quickly.

Elsewhere across western New York, towns like Amherst, Cheektowaga, and West Seneca should prepare for similar patterns. Thursday night remains calm with partly cloudy skies and lows near 55°F.

  • Friday: Another round of storms is possible after 2 p.m., with highs near 74°F.
  • Saturday: Widespread rain and thunder expected by late afternoon; 60% chance of precipitation.
  • Sunday: Mostly cloudy but dry, high near 73°F.
  • Monday: Sunny skies return, warming to 77°F.
  • Tuesday: Slight rain chance, otherwise mostly sunny and 78°F.
