New York, NY – Thunderstorms could snarl traffic and drench commutes across New York City by Tuesday afternoon, with heavy showers and possible lightning expected after 2 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop across NYC starting mid-morning Tuesday, June 10. Rain will begin as early as 8 a.m. and intensify throughout the day, with gusty winds and downpours possible during the afternoon rush. New rainfall amounts could reach over half an inch in some neighborhoods, especially near the Hudson River and across Brooklyn.

Drivers along the FDR Drive and West Side Highway should be alert for ponding water and reduced visibility. The East River crossings may also see delays during peak hours. NYC Emergency Management advises residents to limit outdoor activity during storm periods and charge mobile devices in advance in case of isolated outages.

High temperatures Tuesday will top out near 73°F before cooling to the mid-60s overnight. Winds will shift from the east to the southwest by late afternoon.

Looking ahead, skies clear dramatically by Wednesday, with sunny, mild conditions and a high near 79°F. Thursday brings more warmth with highs in the mid-80s before a slight chance of showers returns for the weekend.
